Jeff Mayweather reflects on Roy Nelsonís loss, and wins by Lawal and Martinez

It has been an interesting couple of weeks for triner Jeff Mayweather. It started off on a bit of a sour note as Roy Nelson, one of the hottest fighters in MMA suffered an upset loss at UFC 161 to Stipe Miocic.

Just a few short days later, his two other MMA fighters scored brutal knockout victories at Bellator 96. King Mo returned to action in style, erasing the taste of his previous upset loss, with a nasty KO victory over Seth Petruzelli. The loss sent the fan favorite Petruzelli into retirement.

Ryan Martinez followed up a lightning quick first round knockout over Travis Wiuff with another first round knockout over Rich Hale. Martinez was not even expected to be on the card, and found out he would be fighting just hours before the weigh in. That had little effect on the Colorado native, who advanced to the finals of the heavyweight tournament with the win.

We spoke with Jeff and got his thoughts on how the events played out, as well as what he expects from each guy going forward. Starting with nelson, he comments on what the loss meant for him and his UFC career, and then goes on to more positive things, talking about the memorable wins for Mo and Martinez in Bellator.

Roy Nelsonís status at this point is unknown since his contract with the UFC has expired and he is deciding on what is best for his career. Lawal and Martinez will next be seen at Bellator 97 in July where they compete in the finals of the Summer Series light heavyweight and heavyweight tournaments, respectively.
